Appeal to devout Hindus

The Times of India, Bangalore edition has denigrated highly revered Hindu Deity, Sri Shiva through a joke published on 19th February 2011 on page no. 2. The joke not only denigrates Sri Shiva, but it also encourages children to steal Deities’ Idols. Once again Times of India has hurt religious sentiments of devout Hindus by such act. It is duty of all Hindus worldwide to protest lawfully against Times of India, Bangalore so that they should render apology to Hindus and also they should not repeat such mistake in the future.

Dear Sir,

Sub: 1.Joke on Lord Shiva and Lord Ganesha in your paper page 2 today.

2.Insult of our National Song Vande Mataram through the Ad in Sport  page

I am a regular reader of your News Paper since last several years.

But in recent times the attitude shown through some of the articles, Cartoons and jokes in your paper seem to intentionally hurt the majority Hindu community and the nationalist forces.

1. Today the joke on Lord Shiva is one such. You may kindly note that by such actions you are hurting the religious sentiments of billions of Hindus who have immense faith in the deities. You should not use the freedom of expression granted to the media to hurt the religious sentiments of a section of the Society who take such repeated insults in their stride. Imagine the situation of your premises in Bangalore or any part of the country had the joke been about the Prophet.

2. In the Sports Page there is the heading  ONE DAY MATARAM. This is a direct insult to the millions of Revolutionaries and freedom Fighters who joined the freedom struggle chanting Vande Mataram and gave up their lives or struggled for the cause of the countrie’s independence.

What kind of message the countries leading Media House wants to give to the Society in this connection?

I was a regular reader of Vijay Karnataka your the Kannada paper from you Media house. But  I have been forced to stop because of this kind of Anti HINDU/ Anti NATIONAL attitude by the Editorial team.

Now I have no other choice but to boycott The Times Group unless you tender your apologies through your paper.

Kindly note that for both your actions people can file police complaints for hurting religious sentiments and showing disgrace to the National Song under various sections of Law.

Sincerely Yours
Robin Bopana

2) A devout Hindu, Reema Patel Sriganesh wrote:

Dear Mr. Sujit,

The following joke by Shivam Pathak was published by ToI Bangalore Edition on 19th Feb, 2011.

Boy to Lord Shiva: “Please give me a cycle!” But Shiva is too busy and doesn’t hear the boy. The next day the boy steals the statue of Lord Ganesha and writes to Lord Shiva: “If you want your son back bring the cycle and meet me behind the temple!”

Now please try to imagine yourself in the shoes of a practicing Hindu. How would you feel? As Hindus we believe in validity of all streams of thought, including atheism. Seems that Mr. Pathak is an atheist (to have come up with a joke that makes use of deities in such poor taste), and, if so, he has the freedom to be one. However, he has no right to publish his joke in public domain and thereby hurt the religious sentiments of hundreds of thousands of believing Hindus. Likewise, with all due respect to free press, neither do you have the right to publish a joke that can easily be considered as blasphemous by practicing Hindus.

Consequently, I, and many other Hindus demand ToI editor’s apology at the soonest for the newspaper’s poor judgment to have published this sacrilegious content, no matter that it is a joke.

Thanks,
Reema.
