Sub: Request to stop  MF Husain’s paintings to be displayed  at your art gallery

Dear Sir,

Hindu Janajagruti Samiti is an NGO engaged in Nation building, educating people about Dharma & Dharmacharan, awakening & uniting Hindus. For further details and worldwide operation of Samiti please visit website www.hindujagruti.org

This refers to news regarding opening of exhibition of paintings on 25th August 2009 at Lal Maidan and organised by J & K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages. We were surprised and shocked to know that exhibition includes the paintings of painter M.F.Husain along with others.

We would like to bring to your notice that MF Hussein has hurt the Religious and National sentiments of crores of Hindus and Indians because of his blasphemous painting of Hindu deities and naked Bharat Mata.

More than 1,250 police complaints have been lodged against him and lot of court cases are going on against him throughout India. He has been accused of outraging religious sentiments, promoting enmity between different religious groups, selling obscene material and disturbing National integrity, thereby committing offences under several sections of the Indian Penal Code. He has also been accused of committing offenses under section 2 of the prevention of Insults to National Honour Act.

Further please note that the Mumbai Police Special Branch is investigating the matter and appropriate action would be taken against M. F. Hussein in due course. The proposed Roopdhar award 2006, Raja Ravi Varma Award, auction of his Rs 6 crore painting by Khushi Foundation at the Turf Club and others have been cancelled and his paintings from various exhibitions were removed due to large number of protests throughout India. Prestigious and largest ‘India Art Summit’ at Pragati Maidan New Delhi has not displayed any paintings of M.F.Husain for last two years.

In spite of this It is very shocking and painful to know that you have NO respect for the deities, naked Saraswati (supposed to be residing at Kasmir) and even Bharatmata. Further you will not dare to hold exhibition paintings of painters denigrating other religions like Denmark cartoonists picture of Mohammad Paigambar.

In view of above we request you to immediately stop displaying Husain’s paintings at your exhibition and stop promoting and glorifying accused painter who has denigrated our Motherland and Hindu deities.

Please acknowledge receipt. Please inform us the action being taken in the matter and oblige.

Yours Truly,
S.G.Vatkar,
(For Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, Mumbai Region)

Further to this email sent by HJS, i would like to emphasis that what has been drawn by Hussain is not art when he has insulted the Gods of the Majority population of India. None of the nationalities of this world has a write to do that.

There have been many instances when Islam has been shown in a negative light. When this is not acceptable to the Muslim people around the world then how can Hussain’s paintings of nude Hindu Gods be allowed to glorify. I am sure u understand how much this hurts  the Hindus.

Therefore, you would understand and oblige us with my request and the request of HJS and Hindus around the world.

Please understand the feelings of others so that we may make this world a peaceful one.
